Blackpaw And Dusty Brown And Kris Anaya At The LowBrau In Sacramento

Wow, time flies. 7-year anniversary party is almost here. Prepare for an amazing show. Twin Shadow collaborator and LA denizen, Blackpaw will bring a full 6-piece band to celebrate with you, along with version 3.0 of the Dusty Brown & Kris Anaya live dance experience. FREE for all!

BLACKPAW is the synth drenched, post-punk, crooning solo project from LA native Adrian Rodriguez, born in the wake of a motorcycle accident that left Rodriguez bedridden and unable to do much more than write, play guitar, and take existential inventory. The recovery process spurred Rodriguez to channel his creative energy into a new project that would take him from a supporting mainstay in the local scene to a sound all his own. The result of that rebirth is Blackpaw, a collaboration with longtime friend and co/producer George Lewis Jr. of Twin Shadow.

Lickspittles, Buttonholers and Damned Pernicious Go-Betweens At The California Stage Complex

“Lickspittles, Buttonholers and Damned Pernicious Go-Betweens” by Johnna Adams (“Gidion’s Knot”). Come join Resurrection Theatre for this offbeat show!

Three extraneous Danish court officials: a professional loud mouth (the buttonholer), a kiss ass for hire (the lickspittle) and a successful dastard (the go-between) are tossed out of court just as Denmark’s merchant fleet becomes of strategic importance in the Napoleonic war. The three men journey to France and meet Napoleon’s top lickspittle, buttonholer and go-between, their female counterparts. Plots abound, flying machines are destroyed and the head of Marie Antoinette is discovered during the madcap struggle to save Copenhagen from British howitzers. The main characters speak in rhyming alexandrine verse, while a host of supporting characters converse in sestinas, haiku, free verse, limericks and sonnets. In a rhyming, metered world, the offbeat rules.

Ramblin’ Jack Elliot: Folk Legend At The Sofia In Sacramento

Hearing Ramblin’ Jack Elliott sing is like sitting down at a campfire with a posse of Old West cowboys and passing around a bottle of moonshine.

A traveling companion of Woody Guthrie, an early mentor of Bob Dylan and, of course, a folk music legend in his own right, Ramblin’ Jack is a true American treasure, and a living link to our musical past. He’s recorded more than 40 albums and was awarded the National Medal of Arts by President Bill Clinton. Beloved for his flatpicking guitar style, soulful harmonica playing and humorous storytelling, Elliot often plays without a set list, so each show is delightfully different, ranging from country and folk to blues and bluegrass. You can see this living legend live in concert at The Sofia in Sacramento.
